What you'll learn

The Biomedical Informatics Bachelor of Science degree is aimed at students who have an introductory background in both computing and biology. It integrates health, information science, biomedical science, programming, bioinformatics, and other related areas.

Upon enrolling in the program, you’ll select from one of the four specialties listed below. From there, we’ll help you to choose classes that will elevate your skills in these and other disciplines.

Transform data into an agent for change and bio-repositories into tools for developing precision medicine. Utilize genomic, molecular, and patient data to diagnose rare diseases and reduce harmful drug interactions to redefine clinical practice.

This course of study focuses on the same areas of expertise as the bioinformatics specialization. It includes all courses required for medical school at Indiana University and most other universities.

Use digital tools to provide care for patients, using remote technology. Students learn how to design these tools; develop technology and programs for analyzing digital data; and build and manage systems to deliver care to patients. This new field is experiencing high rates of growth, offering great opportunities for a rapidly advancing career.

Develop skills to enhance research, and to improve the security of our electronic medical records and the ways we obtain care. Learn how to access and monitor health information to help detect trends and contain outbreaks of disease.
