Health Information Management Credit Options

It's Not Too Late to Launch Your Future

Student applications for the 2020-21 school year will be accepted until August 14 via the ApplyIU platform only. Applicants who apply up through this date will have until August 18 to submit all needed transcripts and materials to be reviewed for the fall semester. We will also continue to award admission-based scholarships for those who meet the qualification criteria.

You can receive credit by prior learning assessment for knowledge and skills acquired from study and professional practice.

Get credit for your credentials

Sixty credit hours of credit-by-credential can be granted to enrolled students who have obtained both:

  1. An Associate of Science in Health Information Technology or an Associate of Applied Science in Health Information Technology within the last 5 years at an institution accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management (CAHIIM).
  2. The Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential awarded by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

Also: Transfer students can transfer up to 90 percent of credit hours they’ve earned from programs accredited by CAHIIM. (This number is based on CAHIIM 2014 competencies.)
