Scholarships for Currently Enrolled Undergraduate Students

If you are an incoming student, please view scholarships available for freshman and transfer students.

The School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI offers several scholarships for current, full-time undergraduate students in all degree programs.

We also encourage you to check out the IUPUI Scholarship Search Engine and subscribe to the ScholarshipNews listserv for additional opportunities.

These are some of the factors considered when applications are reviewed:

  • Academic performance, noted by GPA, class standing, and/or other achievements in specific courses and programs
  • Distinctions already received, as evidenced by prior awards and honors
  • Community service
  • Work experience
  • Potential for continued success in the student’s discipline and for future contributions to academic or public sectors
  • Applicant statement
  • Letters of recommendation

The scholarship committee will meet after the application deadline to review applications. Scholarship winners will be notified via email or letter.

The following available scholarships are not renewable. To be considered for these scholarships, you must apply by the deadline each year.

Applications for the 2019-2020 academic year will be available on November 1. The deadline is March 15.

Health Information Technology Scholarship

Up to $1,000 per year

One award is granted annually to a junior or senior majoring in Informatics, Health Information Management, or Media Arts and Science who has an interest in health information technology. The scholarship may be given to a student with a strong affinity for working in a health field, whether through the study of informatics and the health sciences, health information administration, bioinformatics, or media arts and science. Preference will be given to a student with at least a 3.2 GPA who demonstrates strong leadership qualities and a desire to pursue further education beyond an undergraduate degree.

Gertrude L. Gunn Memorial Fund Scholarship

$1,000 per year

Multiple awards are granted to students with junior or senior standing who have been admitted to the Health Information Management professional program. Students must demonstrate academic excellence, a minimum GPA of 3.0, and financial need. Students should apply in the spring semester prior to the junior or senior year.

John R. Gibbs Scholarship

$1,000 per year

One award is granted annually either to a full-time undergraduate student or a full-time graduate student currently enrolled in the IU School of Informatics and Computing. The student must have a record of academic excellence and a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a scale of 4.0. Preference is given to those who have demonstrated or expressed a stated interest in innovation and entrepreneurship.

Dean’s Advisory Council Senior Scholarship

$1,000 per year

One award is granted annually to a student of senior standing currently majoring in Informatics or Media Arts and Science. The student must have a record of innovation, community service or academic excellence. The student must also maintain his or her major in Informatics or Media Arts and Science throughout his or her senior year. Candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a scale of 4.0.

Tyler R. Stull Memorial Scholarship

$1,500 per year

One award is granted annually to an undergraduate student of senior standing majoring in Media Arts and Science. The student must demonstrate significant talent and future career potential in graphic or sound design. The recipient will have an excellent record of academic achievement and a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to Indiana residents who demonstrate financial need.

TheOfficeWorks/Tom O’Neil Scholarship

$1,000 per year

One award is granted annually to a full-time undergraduate student currently enrolled in the IU School of Informatics and Computing who is pursuing a degree in Media Arts and Science or Informatics. The student must have a record of academic excellence and a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a scale of 4.0. Special consideration will be given to underrepresented students, including but not limited to financially challenged students and/or students with diverse cultural experiences. Students must have completed a FAFSA in order to be considered for this scholarship.

The Officeworks/Tom O’Neil Scholarship is set up as an auto-match, meaning students do not need to apply for it. Based on the qualifications, students are automatically matched to it and are considered for the Scholarship. There is no essay or letter of recommendation required.

RJE Knoll Internship Scholarship

Fall: $400, Spring $400, Summer $450

One award is granted each semester to a full-time undergraduate student currently enrolled in the IU School of Informatics and Computing that has arranged an internship with both an employer and the Career Services office at the School of Informatics and Computing. The student must have a record of academic excellence and a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0. Students must fulfill the following requirements, in addition to the application, to be eligible.

  • Completion of the following courses:
    Informatics Majors: I101, I201, I202, I210, I211, N299
    Media Arts and Science Majors: N100, N101, N102, N202, N299
  • Completed School of Informatics and Computing Credit Internship Application, signed by an employer and approved by the Career Services office.

Jan Ashton Health Information Management Scholarship

$1,000 per year

One award is granted annually to a full-time undergraduate or graduate student currently enrolled in the IU School of Informatics and Computing Health Information Management program. The student should be in good academic standing with a record of academic excellence and a minimum GPA of 3.2 on a scale of 4.0.

School of Informatics and Computing Perseverance Scholarship

$750 per year

To be eligible, IU School of Informatics and Computing undergraduate students must be in good academic standing and be able to demonstrate success during a challenging life event—or upon returning to the School of Informatics and Computing after enduring a difficult life event.

Spandana Kommalapati Memorial Scholarship

$1,000 per year

The Spandana Kommalapati Memorial Scholarship is open to undergraduate or graduate students who are enrolled in the Department of BioHealth Informatics in the School of Informatics and Computing (SOIC) IUPUI in good standing. Students must demonstrate academic excellence, a minimum GPA of 3.2, and financial need.

SOIC Health Info Management BS (Van Ausdall and Farrar Scholarship)

$1,000 per year

This award is granted to full-time students with junior or senior standing who have been admitted to the Health Information Management professional program. Students must demonstrate academic excellence, a minimum GPA of 3.0, and financial need. Students should apply in the spring semester prior to the junior or senior year. Preference will be given to Indiana residents and students who plan to practice their profession in Indiana.
