Students at the School of Informatics and Computing are required to have a personal laptop computer available for use in class. Students who already own laptops are welcome to use them in class provided the laptop has the minimum memory and operating standards required for the software used in the course.
Students can check out professional-quality gear for use on class projects, such as shooting video footage for a documentary or a live-action short.
Video production students may utilize a range of Blackmagic Design Professional cameras. These include Cinema Camera, URSA Mini and URSA Mini Pro models. The cameras are available in kits that include Rokkinon prime lenses and Sigma Zoom lenses. These kits allow the students to produce content for narrative or documentary film in 4K or HD.
Arri and Lowel light kits and production sound devices from Zoom, Rode, and AKG also are available.
SoIC has a 3-D print lab located on campus for SoIC students, faculty, and staff to print 3-D objects for class or personal projects. The lab is equipped with 4 Makerbot printers including 2 Z18 large format printers.
