Biography
Xiaowen Liu is an associate professor of bioinformatics in the Department of BioHealth Informatics. Before joining SOIC, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Western Ontario, the University of Waterloo, and the University of California, San Diego, from 2008 to 2012.
Liu’s research focuses on computational proteomics, especially mass spectrometry-based top-down proteomics, which is capable of identifying various proteoforms in biological samples. Liu’s lab has developed powerful software tools for top-down mass spectrometry-based proteoform identification, characterization, and quantitation. These efficient software tools, including TopFD, TopPIC and TopMG, have been widely used in the proteomics community. They significantly facilitate the application of top-down mass spectrometry in disease biomarker discovery, proteoform database annotation, and protein function studies.
