School of Informatics and Computing Alum Works on PBS Nationally Syndicated Program

January 24, 2014

Kylee Wall, a 2009 Media Arts and Science graduate from the School of Informatics and Computing (SOIC), recently completed work on the third season of the nationally syndicated PBS television program, “This American Land”.

Kylee_TALcollage_v1-1“This American Land” is a television series whose primary focus is on the theme of conservation. The series which recently wrapped-up its third season airs nationwide on PBS stations. The show delivers engaging stories on America’s landscapes, waters and wildlife – and takes viewers to the front lines of conservation, science and outdoor adventure.

Wall, who is currently employed by the Atlanta-based media production firm, Biscardi Creative Media, served as lead editor on the program. Her responsibilities included offline and online editing, crafting individual stories and finishing other stories from outside editors. She was also in charge of the final assembly and delivery of each episode.

According to Kylee, she “loved getting a lot of footage and a rough outline of the intended message and then being given free rein to do my own thing, and craft a story out of what I was given. In fact, doing just that for one of the stories landed me my first producer credit!”

Before working on “This American Land”, Kylee’s previous experience was focused on corporate and web-based work, with independent short and feature films on the side. Kylee, along with other SOIC alumni, was actively involved in 48 Hour Film Projects locally after graduation, winning a number of awards for short films.

When asked what advice she would give anyone aspiring to get a job in the film and television industry, she said “ask a lot of questions and meet as many people as you can. I got hired at this job because of my positive social media presence. You never know where your next opportunity will be.”

To view Kylee’s work on “This American Land”, check your local public television stations’ schedule for airdates.
