July 6, 2010
A paper by Davide Bolchini, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Human-Computer Interaction at the School of Informatics and Computing, was recently published by The Journal of Information Architecture. The paper, titled "Beyond Findability – Search-Enhanced Information Architecture for Content-Intensive Rich Internet Applications," was co-authored by Bolchini with colleagues at Politecnico di Milano in Italy.
Bochini’s work details a way to extend classic information architecture for web-based applications. The paper codifies design strategies to enhance traditional user experiences, mainly based on navigation or search, to new ones (also relevant for stakeholders’ requirements). Examples are sense making, at-a-glance understanding, playful exploration, serendipitous browsing and brand communication.
The Journal of Information Architecture is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal with open-access policy. "Beyond Findability – Search-Enhanced Information Architecture for Content-Intensive Rich Internet Applications" can be accessed for free in full PDF or HTML.
