Growing enrollment in Google certificate program

2023

28 iDEW students participate in the Google Data Analytics Certificate Program. A second cohort of 46 students begin the program in the fall.

Students visit Google in Chicago

2023

40 iDEW students participating in the Google Data Analytics Certificate Program visit Google in Chicago where they toured the facilities, participated in a personal branding exercise and learned more about the Google culture through an employee panel and extensive Q&A session.

Record enrollment in iDEW classes

Over 400 students in 38 high school classes through the academic year.

Professional Certifications

55 students participated in summer programming. 26 earned certificates in Scrum, CompTIA PC Pro, A+, and Net+.

Teacher Training

Computing by Design curriculum training delivered to 207 middle and high school teachers from 165 schools in 41 counties.

New Programs Funded by Grant

2022

$2.6 million grant from the Indiana Department of Education Explore, Engage and Experience (3E) program supporting iDEW operation with added programming for elementary and middle school students through the work of TechPoint Foundation for Youth and Stem@TheROCK. iDEW pilots a Google Data Analytics Certificate program with Luddy dual credits. Will make this program available to 75 students through spring 2024.

Growth in College Enrollment

2021

563 iDEW grads have enrolled in a post-secondary program across 19 states.

14 students are attending 7 HBCUs.

20 iDEW students graduate from two or four-year post-secondary programs including Ivy Tech Community College, IUPUI, Manchester University, Purdue University West Lafayette, Southern Regional Technical College, Taylor University, and Vincennes University.

2 college graduates enroll in master's programs.

186 middle and high school teachers register for a second year of teacher professional development using Computing by Design (CxD) and funded by the Indiana Department of Education.

2017 STEM Mentoring Award winner

The IU School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI on October 10 wins the 2017 STEM Mentoring Award in the category of Excellence in Public-Private Partnerships for the iDEW initiative.

Curriculum growth

By the 2016-17 school year, a total of 14 iDEW classes are being offered at Arsenal Technical, Pike and Providence Cristo Rey high schools. Video Games and Data Visualization are added to the iDEW curriculum.

Informatics Diversity-Enhanced Workforce program begins

2015

The Informatics Diversity-Enhanced Workforce program begins as a partnership between the Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI and JPMorgan Chase.

The iDEW program starts with one class each at 3 Indianapolis high schools: Arsenal Technical, Pike, and Providence Cristo Rey. In its pilot year, the program enrolls a total of 70 freshmen.
