International Student Career Resources

Welcome to the Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing in Indianapolis, IN, USA!  Our career services staff has developed career resources with international students in mind.  We hope these resources are a helpful way to learn about US work culture and give you an overview of what to expect during your time with the School of Informatics and Computing and within the US in relation to careers.

The Informatics Career Services Office has a dedicated staff who are experienced in working with international students from a variety of countries.  Staff members are also ready to answer career planning and career development questions upon arrival and throughout your academic stay, so you are encouraged to stop by and introduce yourself.

Advice for International Students

  • Practice English skills as much as possible
  • Get relevant experience with Curricular Practical Training (CPT), volunteering, student organizations or service learning (Note:  Please visit the Office of International Affairs for workshops on CPT/OPT)
  • Start networking and get to know faculty
  • Learn as much as possible about cultural norms in the United States (Note:  the Office of International Affairs conducts workshops on cultural norm topics)
  • Look for ways to stand out
  • Check for opportunities in companies who have sponsored H1-B in the past or international companies
  • Review the resources provided on this page
